Claire qualified as a solicitor before being elected as the Member of Parliament for Watford in 1997. During 13 years as an MP, Claire spent five years as a government minister working with a number of departments including Business, HM Treasury, Health and Culture, Media and Sports. In her post as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice, she introduced the Bribery Act 2010 into the UK.
She was appointed Chief Executive of the Institute for Collaborative Working in 2019. She also continues roles in the pharmacy sector with the Pharmacists Defence Association and as Chair of Sigma Pharmaceuticals Annual Conference. She is Governor of the University of Hertfordshire since September 2018 and has been a Non-Executive Director of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since May 2013.
